Fiddle to Hell
There once was a man who saved up all his money and put it
in earns and buried them. He had three sons. When he died he did not mention
anything about the money to anyone. When there was a festival in the village
there came a fiddler that came to reveal the location but was sucked down to hell.
When he saw the man they conversed and told each other why they were both in
hell. The man told the fiddler to go sit on the stove over yonder and not to eat
for three years. Then fiends came to mock the man for being sent to hell for
storing money and not sharing. After they were gone he sent the fiddler away
and told him to tell his children where the money was and to donate it to the
poor. The fiends found the fiddler and told him to play. Before each time he
asked god for a blessing and the strings snapped. They did this twice and he
said he needed to go back to earth to get more since theirs didn’t work. The fiends
agreed and when he got up on earth he told the children to do what their father
asked. They did this and the more they gave away seemed to not empty the pot.
In the end the lord sent angels to take the man to heaven.
