The Gate of Hell
Virgil and Dante make their way to the gate of hell. As they
head to the gate Dante constantly is asking Virgil questions about what he is
feeling. He saw words written on the gate and asked Virgil what they meant. He
said that it means that all certainty must be left behind as one proceeds
through the gate. One must also have great bravery. He grabbed Dante’s hand and
they carried on through the gate. There was sounds of groaning and sadness in
the air. Great pain hung in the air and Dante noticed. He asked Virgil what he
was hearing. He said that it was the miserable way that which the people lived
that had not praise. He asked what is so sad that would make them moan so. He
said that they hav no hope of death no escape. Earth allows no memory of them
to exist and mercy and justice rejects them. Dante noticed that these people were
enemies of God. Then the ferryman came to bring those to the other side of fire
and ice to eternal darkness.
Bibliography: Dante’s Divine Comedy by Tony Kline
Hey Dallas,
ReplyDeleteI also chose Dante’s Divine Comedy as my final reading for this week – I’ve noticed a lot of others within our class chose to read it as well. I guess it’s because so many are pretty familiar with the stories. I like how for your reading notes you basically summarize what the story so far is. Thanks for sharing!
